Seesmic Acquires Twhirl, for Desktop Video Microblogging

Seesmic, the still-in-alpha "Twitter for video", has just announced its acquisition of Twhirl, one of the more popular apps for posting to Twitter, Jaiku, Pownce, etc. The Twhirl application runs on AIR, and sits on your desktop enabling you to see Twitter posts from those you follow, and post to Twitter as well. The price of the acquisition has not been disclosed, but this does mark the first acquisition of a pure AIR application.

From the looks of the details given, the Twhirl technology will in fact be more fully integrated into Seesmic's service, so that users can more easily send their video clips directly from their desktops. The idea here is to get Seesmic access and conversations into a desktop client for those users that would prefer a more direct interaction with Seesmic conversations.
