However, Twitter execs announced at the conference that the company would be rolling out its own native application for the Android platform. In a recent interview with Mashable's Ben Parr, Seesmic founder Loic Le Meur said that he was initially concerned about competing with "official" apps from Twitter. "We have one of the best Android apps. [Twitter's announcement] was bad news. I think we can differentiate with multiple services support... hundreds of services should be integrated soon."

Here are a few details about the Seesmic app's upgrades:

Widget

View the timeline from the device’s home screen.

Tap on a tweet to read it entirely.

Compose a new tweet from the widget.

Native Retweet

Choose ways of retweeting, either Twitter's revised style or the old "quote" style.

Choose the style of your quote (“RT” or “via”).

Geotagging

See any tweets with geodata displayed graphically.

Attach your location to each message or have it automatically configured.

Launched just last fall, Seesmic's Android app has seen several rounds of updates so far. Well-designed and easy to use, the app allows for management of lists, trends and multiple accounts.

So far, there's no word on what Twitter's own Android application will bring to the platform, but we're sure that the hardworking and innovative folks at Seesmic will continue to adapt and improve their offerings across all mobile and PC platforms.
