Today, Seesmic Desktop is rolling out additional updates (to members of its Team Seesmic program) that might definitively push it past its chief rival, at least in the eyes of certain social media power users. Version 0.3 of the software builds on its existing strengths – like multiple accounts – and adds a number of new features, like connecting to your photo and URL shortening accounts, that make it extremely attractive.

On the multi-account front, Seesmic has made it much easier to switch back and forth between accounts. In addition to being able to post to multiple Twitter accounts and Facebook simultaneously, there’s now what Seesmic calls “Smart Account Enabling,” which, for example, will automatically select the account you should be using to reply based on the tweet you’re replying to.

Moving on, Seesmic’s most significant enhancement might be its new connections to third-party services. That means you can now connect your Bit.ly, TwitPic, YFrog, and several other types of accounts to Seesmic Desktop. Thus, when you shorten a URL with Bit.ly, that URL will be part of your Bit.ly account, where you can track stats and utilize Bit.ly’s other features. Likewise, when you use Twitpic from inside Seesmic, the photo will be uploaded directly to the selected TwitPic account.

There are a lot of other minor enhancements in today’s release, but we think these two make Seesmic Desktop a killer application for social media power users – especially those that manage multiple accounts across both Twitter and Facebook.
