Is the Star Trek tricorder one step closer to reality? The four-person team behind the project Sensordrone thinks so and it's asking for Kickstarter users to help bring the all-in-one environmental sensor to life.

Sensordrone is a keychain device with four built-in sensors for measuring temperature, color, light, air and capacitance. It pairs over Bluetooth with your smartphone to collect and analyze a variety of environmental data.

Sensorcon, the company behind the Sensordrone, says the device won't just collect data but also guide users to make smarter decisions. For example, humidity sensing could be used to determine comfort level for infants, find the optimum conditions for storing foods, and even help prevent mold from growing in your home. Sensordrone can be used with hundreds of apps to extend its functionality and the device can also be connected with existing sensor devices like a carbon monoxide monitor or even a radiation sensor. The Sensordrone team is making the device's application software openly available so other developers can build their own apps for the tool.
