It didn't take long for Sesame Street to shake its head in disapproval at the Obama campaign's latest ad, which aligns Big Bird with Ponzi schemer Bernie Madoff and other Wall Street criminals. Sesame Workshop released a statement Tuesday, hours after the ad's debut, requesting the Obama campaign remove the ad.

"Sesame Workshop is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization and we do not endorse candidates or participate in political campaigns. We have approved no campaign ads, and as is our general practice, have requested that the ad be taken down," the statement said.

Big Bird became a central figure of the presidential race during the Oct. 3 debate, when GOP candidate Mitt Romney stated that though he "loves Big Bird," he would cut subsidies for PBS. The comment sparked tweets, Google searches, memes and even an Indiegogo campaign to save the beloved character.
