Seth Meyers Kicks Off 'Late Night' With Amy Poehler, Tiny Chairs

Think of it as Saturday Night Live, but the host is always Seth Meyers.

Meyers seamlessly picked up the Late Night baton Monday night with a cold open sketch of "Thank You Notes." The sketch was a Jimmy Fallon staple when he hosted Late Night. So it was an appropriate nod to his predecessor, who moved up to The Tonight Show last week.

The cold open reflected Meyers' SNL days, where the newest late-night host spent 12 years of his career -- nine of which as head writer. He then moved onto a monologue, which again resembled his old SNL gig of hosting "Weekend Update" minus the iconic desk. The jokes were quick hits with little buildup, and ranged from Rob Ford to the Olympics.

The SNL similarities didn't end there. Meyers' first guest was old pal Amy Poehler, who discussed their past and even shared some gossip about another SNL transfer to Late Night: band leader Fred Armisen.

The interview hinted that under Meyers, the show will focus more on conversations and jokes, leaving the skits, games and gags to Fallon.

Meyers' SNL callbacks stopped there: His second guest was Vice President Joe Biden.

While it seemed Meyers took few risks on his Late Night debut, he bucked the talk show sofa trend in favor of midcentury modern, teeny-tiny chairs.

But if furniture is all we have to complain about, looks like Late Night is in good hands.
