Just over six months ago, Sex.com made headlines when People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) published a letter requesting that the now-bankrupt Escom, LLC (the current and soon-to-be-previous) owner donate the domain (then valued at $18 million) so the organization could use it as a tool in its recent “vegetarians are sexy” ad campaign. Obviously, Escom did not give up the goods that easily.

Now The Register is reporting that a company called Clover Holdings Ltd. has sealed the deal, beating out 12 bidders with the "highest and best offer."

Back in 2006, Escom bought Sex.com for between $12 million and $14 million, making it one of the priciest domains ever. Looks like the value hasn't really gone up that much in the last four years, though.

We'll have to wait and see what Clover chooses to do with the domain -- aside from the obvious.
