The battle between SGN and Zynga lives on, with SGN making a handful of acquisitions: Esgut, Free Gifts, Nicknames, Oregon Trail and Friend Block. That puts SGN over 50 million installs with a reported near-million active users visiting SGN's growing network on a daily basis.
So what's SGN trying to do, aside from growing its network to become a major powerhouse in the gaming application realm? Create an in-house team of good app developers. Several developers of the Esgut, Free Gifts and Nicknames teams are joining SGN as co-founders, making SGN's core development-focused and determined for growth.
SGN already had an interesting platform approach, and has been able to build a mini ecosystem on top of this foundation, layering in ads, cross-promotional tools, and a number of other benefits towards the developers' end. As we saw with Buddy Media, this approach only strengthens the open platform marketplace for the further growth of such marketplaces.
