The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones didn't exactly storm the box office in 2013. The movie was panned by critics and drew disappointing receipts, scuttling plans for a franchise of sequels. Clearly, though, there was an audience for filmed versions of Cassandra Clare's YA series; Simon & Schuster says there are over 24 million copies of The Mortal Instruments in print worldwide.
The solution? Turn Clare's work into a serialized TV show, which premieres on ABC Family -- sorry, that's Freeform now -- in 2016.
The first teaser for the show, which premiered on Snapchat and at New York Comic Con before finally hitting YouTube, introduces (or re-introduces) the series' main players: redheaded chosen one Clary Fray, dishy demon-fighter Jace Wayland, nerdy Simon Lewis, Glee refugee Harry Shum Jr. as flamboyant sorcerer Magnus Bane, and -- maybe most excitingly -- Old Spice guy Isaiah Mustafa as a werewolf named Luke.
