China still builds malls, and they are beautiful.

New photos released on Monday reveal a step up in mall transportation. A massive new shopping complex in Shanghai features two sets of six-story spiral escalators.

Instead of running straight and side-by-side an opposite running escalator, these curve out into the mall atrium, one level at a time. You would have to walk across the mall in order to access the escalator that runs in the opposite direction. So it looks pretty cool, but they don't seem very practical, much like a mall in general.

It should be noted that these aren't the first spiral escalators that have made their appearance in shopping centers, Caesar's Palace Forum shops in Las Vegas features a two-level system. Mitsubishi Electric, manufacturers of the spiral escalators in Las Vegas notes that there are some in Japan as well.
