At this point, the Sharknado franchise fulfills two essential purposes:

1. They provide a way for D-list celebrities to keep their SAG card long enough to cash in on their pensions (and for George R.R. Martin to find another way to avoid finishing his books).

2. They give Twitter something to discuss in late July.

And right on time, Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No blew onto TV screens Wednesday night, and Twitter took the bait, providing an ocean's worth of groan-worthy puns and wisecracks.

This film around, the sharks rode roller coasters, took out the White House and got blown out of the sky up and down the Eastern seaboard.

But at least David Hasselhoff and NASA are finally getting their 15-minutes of fame.
