[img src="" caption="" credit="" alt=""]Facebook is set to announce Sheryl Sandberg as the company’s new Chief Operating Officer according to Kara Swisher of AllThingsD. Sandberg is currently Google’s VP of Global Online Sales and Operations (and still listed on the company’s management page as of posting), where she is responsible for: “online sales of Google's advertising and publishing products … [and] sales operations for Google's consumer products and Google Book Search.”

The Facebook COO spot has been open since Owen Van Natta was demoted to Chief Revenue Officer. It was learned several weeks ago that Van Natta, who was also serving as VP of Operations, was leaving Facebook.

The move marks yet another prominent Googler leaving for Facebook, with other notables including Gideon Yu (CFO) and Benjamin Ling, who now oversees the Facebook Platform.

UPDATE (10:45PST): Facebook has officially announced Sandberg as their new COO. Release >
