Singapore -- The fundamentals of any good artwork depend on an artist's skills and the drawing tools used.
In this video, Singaporean artist Cheng Yi Lin undertook the challenge of illustrating Singapore's city skyline using Japanese cosmetic brand Shu Uemura's latest range of eye makeup products as her medium.
Trained in fashion design in Los Angeles and New York, Cheng returned to Singapore last year and started her career as an illustrator. Cheng's and Shu Uemura's paths crossed after the latter came across her work online and commissioned her to showcase its latest product addition, a liquid eyeliner that claims to be as precise and easy to use as a calligraphy brush.
Cheng told Mashable that the illustration took three weeks to complete. On top of using the Calligraph:ink eyeliner for outlining, Cheng also incorporated the brand's pressed eyeshadows, metallic liquid eyeliners, drawing pencils and gel liners into the artwork.
"Makeup, much like art, promotes expression of individuality," said Cheng. "Just as art reflects the mental state of the artist, makeup can be used in infinite ways to express one's mood for that day."
Since its launch in 1960, Shu Uemura has been championing its "art of beauty" philosophy, choosing to collaborate with international artists such as Takashi Murakami, Yazbukey and Maison Kitsune.
