'SimCity' Coming to Mac Aug. 29

SimCity is finally being released for Mac on Aug. 29, five months after being released for PC, EA announced Monday.

The newest city-building game from EA and Maxis will be a cross-platform game, which means gamers who downloaded it for PC will be able to get a Mac copy for free through Origin, EA's download service.

SimCity was supposed to be available for Mac starting June 11, but the release was delayed for two months. The PC version came out March 5. The game sports a new engine that Maxis said would give each SimCity resident its own life and direction.

SimCity was plagued with problems at launch after servers were too crowded to handle the rush of people. Consumers, upset that the game could only be played online, filed petitions and created hacks to take the game offline.
