Simkl IM History Backup Now Open to the Public

Simkl popped up on our radar earlier this year, when the IM history-saving service was still in private beta. Today, Simkl is opening its doors to the public, giving everyone an opportunity to test out its features.

What Simkl does is allow you to save your instant messenger conversations for your personal use at a later date. Your history is automatically saved on Simkl's servers. This feature often comes in handy when you need to find a link your friend shared with you, or you're conducting an informal interview via chat.

Simkl is compatible with just about every IM client out there, and with today's launch, Simkl is also announcing support for Windows Live Messenger and full access to AIM, ICQ, MSN and Yahoo. Now, most IM clients out there have already added the ability to save your chats, whether they're placed on your desktop (or another folder of your designation), or merely incorporated into your email folders.

But unless you're akin to using Gmail for your Google and AOL buddies, search is the biggest hindrance with the backup options that come standard with other IM clients. The search capability of Simkl is where this service provides the most value, and Simkl has also layered in some updates for improved search and filtering functionality to ensure that this is as useful as possible for its customers.
