The brief first trailer for Star Trek: Beyond has already drawn a fair amount of criticism for Fast & Furious director Justin Lin's upcoming take on the beloved franchise. Actor Simon Pegg, who plays Scotty in the films, feels the same.

"I found it to be...the marketing people sort of saying 'Everybody come and see this film, it's full of action and fun,' when there's a lot more to it than that," explained said at the premiere for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. "I didn't love it because I know there's a lot more to the film. There's a lot more story and a lot more character stuff and a lot more what I would call Star Trek stuff."

Pegg encouraged Star Trek fans to "hang in there," saying that marketers are trying to "bang the drum" and bring in a big audience.

Star Trek: Beyond releases in July 2016.
