SINGAPORE -- Diners have come out in droves to support a local restaurant's fundraising campaign for its chef's cancer treatments.

The owners of the restaurant Strangers' Reunion launched a social media campaign this week called Save-A-Stranger, to help raise funds for its head chef, Sebastian Tan. Tan, at 26-years-old, was recently diagnosed with stage four cancer.

Strangers' Reunion and sister establishment, Curious Palette, are usually closed on Tuesdays, but will now operate on the day with proceeds from the day's takings going to Tan's treatments. The owners announced the campaign on the restaurant's Facebook page, and added that the staff working on Tuesdays are also volunteering their time there.

The campaign started on Tuesday and diners turned up forming snaking queues at both outlets to show their support. The owners said that the campaign will continue until they meet their target of S$100,000 (US$71,192). Way to go, Singapore!

So heartwarming to see the overwhelming love for #SaveAStranger, really makes me feel that people in Singapore are indeed compassionate— Ang Yonghui (@cabbitowl) December 8, 2015
