A 200-meter long hole opened up along the Arno in Florence early on Wednesday. The road appeared to have collapsed next to the riverbank where cars were parked. Many cars fell in the chasm which appeared to be filled with water. According to a firefighter report the chasm was apparently caused by the breaking of an underground water pipe. No casualties were reported.
