As was reported around the blog world some time ago, the (somewhat) Digg-like link aggregation and promotion engine fitted specially for women and known for the past 8-10 months as Sk*rt, greatly irked the publisher of a magazine called Skirt. Enough to get a few choice words about a potential trademark suit, according to Marshall Kirkpatrick of ReadWriteWeb and Elana Centor of BlogHer.

Well, following their testy exchange with Morris Publishing, the Sk*rt clan have gone and held a name-changing contest. And after a solid round of voting among 10 options, they’ve now been granted a new label. Which we kind of like. Maybe even a bit more than the site’s original moniker. Without further adieu, we introduce to you: Kirtsy.

Yep, Kirtsy. As in curtsy. Or a refashioned Sk*rt with a ‘y’ to top if off. Does it appeal? We have to say, given the other options, we can understand why this pick was the fave. The losing nine were: Jupe, Phlox, Mesosoup, SheSaw, Fierst, GabOHia, 19rocks, and HolyMoses, in no particularly formulaic order.
