Reddit, the lightweight Digg-like site, announced the release of Slate Reddit earlier this week. The cobranded site is autopopulated (via RSS feeds) with stories from Slate, the online magazine owned by the Washington Post. That's in contrast to the original Reddit site, where users submit stories manually. It seems that the Reddit folks saw Slate articles appearing regularly on the site, and decided to spin off a new vertical. Reddit already has a number of "subreddits" like programming and Web 2.0, and more white label sites are in the works.

What differentiates Reddit from Digg is that your view is personalized: Reddit logs your votes and feeds them into its recommendation engine, delivering more targeted news for each user. It's more understated than Digg in terms of design, and it's probably fair to say that it's popular with programmers.
