Falling Asleep on Strangers Brings Out Smiles on NYC Subway

Public transportation often lacks adequate personal space. In this situation, the last thing you would want is a stranger resting his head on your shoulder.

And yet the folks in this clip from philanthropic website Charidy act surprisingly lenient when it comes to playing a pillow for strangers. In this strange but surprisingly heartwarming social experiment, a man sits next to commuters on the New York City subway and fakes falling asleep. After a few moments, he gently leans over onto the person next to him.

While some quickly shoved him off, a surprising number of commuters quietly chuckled and went about their business. It's a sweet reminder that not all New Yorkers live up to their unfriendly reputation.

If the situation looks familiar, YouTube prankster Stuart Edge filmed his own version of the stunt in July.
