Good design starts somewhere -- either with nature, a physical object or another person's art form. Inspiration, especially online, can piggyback, with each creation building on the one before yet still putting something new on the table. Q&A With Megan Flood
I've been saying "Look what I made today" since I was in pre-school. I love creating and seeing how others react to my work. What attracts me most to design -- and the creative world in general -- are the people I learn from and collaborate with, whether it be an acclaimed illustrator from Milan or a rubber stamp designer on the Lower East Side. There is nothing more fulfilling than collaborating with positive, motivated and interesting people.
In one phrase, how would you describe your design style?
Juxtaposing elements (vintage and modern, bold and approachable) to create a unique and unexpected result.
Where do you look or go for design inspiration?
Literally everything I see, hear, feel and touch can inspire me. Italy storefronts, my mother's handwriting, a jewelry stand, old store signs, day trips to MOMA, and of course caffeine.
What's the ambiance like when you're designing something?
Our culture at Maloney & Fox is young, vibrant and energetic. Music is always playing, and everyone is always laughing. Our loft is the ideal place for creative thinking.
What designers have influenced you?
Henri Matisse's colors and collaging. Paul Rand's timeless designs. Louise Fili's intricate and delicate typography.
What's your dream design project?
Creative Director for the Olympics!
