LAS VEGAS -- Shaving is just awful.

No matter how many blades we stack onto a razor, the experience simply hasn't improved in the last few years. The shaving community may argue about which razors are the best, but it's universally accepted that shaving with a warm blade and water beats shaving cold.

But constantly running your blades under water seems wasteful. So the SmartRazor Heat actually warms the blade itself right down to the cutting edge, which, according to SmartRazor founder and CEO Lou Tomassetti, makes shaving three times easier, reducing razor burn.

Tomassetti showed us the razor while he sought investment for the product at CES. There's no expected launch date.

The razor itself has six blades but it didn't feel bulky or off-balanced. Once I threw the switch on the front of the razor, it took about seven seconds to heat up, and you could really feel the heat when it was pressed against skin.

Tomassetti didn't say the exact temperate the blades reached, but he said it was equivalent to holding your razor under the tap for several minutes. But you don't have to keep reheating your razor, because the Heat stays warm the entire time you shave.

The razor is powered with a single AA battery, which can be recharged with its stand. The expected retail price of the razor itself is about $60-$75 and the blades will cost about $7 a piece. But Tomassetti said his blades would last three times longer because they slice through hair more easily.
