Deep breaths, nerds.

Nintendo has added an unexpected cameo character to Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS: Final Fantasy VII's Cloud Strife.

Cloud and a stage based on Final Fantasy's Midgar area will be released together, though Nintendo hasn't specified a release date or price. The Midgar stage seems to be chock full of Final Fantasy references.

This is the second downloadable character from a totally separate publisher to be announced since the game's release last fall. In June, Nintendo released Ryu from Street Fighter for both the 3DS and Wii U versions of Smash Bros., with a matching stage as well.

Cloud will wield his trademark, gigantic Buster Sword, and will come with different costumes inspired by his appearances. His announcement also kind of broke the Internet.

For amiibo collectors, Nintendo is undoubtedly planning to create a tie-in plastic figure for the sword-swinging hero. Based on the Twitter reactions, we can expect demand to be high.
