Crowdsourcing has been used for everything from drafting a constitution to creating Super Bowl ads. But can it also be used to solve crimes?
That's the hope of Morgan Wright, who spent 18 years working in law enforcement and will soon launch a new initiative that aims to use the power of the crowd to catch criminals.
Wright, who is now Chief Crime Fighter at Crowdsourced Investigations, says he was inspired in part by a Mashable article about how commenters on a blog were able to help pinpoint a car involved in a fatal hit and run accident.
He thinks that our social networking addiction is creating what can ultimately be a vast crime fighting network, by connecting people (witnesses) to the locations, dates, times and photos that are instrumental in solving crimes.
