These cities join Victoria and Vancouver, B.C.; San Carlos, California; and the state of Arizona in officially recognizing Social Media Day -- a day to celebrate the revolution of media becoming a social dialogue.
Dublin is the first European city to make this proclamation. During his first day as Lord Mayor of Dublin, Andrew Montague signed the Social Media Day proclamation in partnership with Dublin's sister city San Jose. The Irish Technology Leadership Group, an organization that works to strengthen the technology connection between Silicon Valley and Ireland, played a big role in encouraging both cities to recognize the event. Mayor Rob Ford of Toronto signed the proclamation after Toronto Social Media Day Meetup organizers Michael Nus and Dan Levy petitioned the city.
Las Vegas Social Media Day organizer Demont Daniel of Finesse Enterprises oversaw the movement that led to the declaration of Social Media Day in Las Vegas.

More than 1,400 Social Media Day Meetups are registered, with more than 8,000 participants around the world. We're thrilled to see these places recognize June 30 as a celebration of the tools that empower their citizens to communicate, connect and engage. It's a true show of how much social media has changed our daily lives.
