Canadian Bosses Think Facebook Is More Important than TV

A recent study from Veritas Communications in Canada shows that about half of business leaders think that social media is more important than mass media for marketing purposes. And what does social media entail? According to those polled, social media includes Facebook, YouTube and blogs.

[img src="" caption="" credit="" alt=""]Forty-six percent of those surveyed have said that this kind of social media is even more important than television, radio, newspapers and magazines. This isn't a surprising set of statistics, but it does highlight a turning of the tide, where the online sector is more important than every other aspect of traditional media. And if it's more important than traditional media for marketing purposes, the implications are that social media has become far more important for a great many aspects of our lives. Marketing goes where the people are.

Now radio. That really doesn't surprise anyone, does it? Advertising on the radio has been dipping for some time now. But the tipping point appears to be a shift away from television, and the rest. At least in Canada. And we all know why. Marketing online is more targeted, you get better stats and analysis for what you're paying for, and it's cheaper to reach more people. I don't need to go into length on this point, but I'd love to see some stats on other countries across the globe, and a survey of how the consumers feel about the same topics.
