Miami Heat Steals Top Social TV Spots This Week

In a mid-winter week with no big awards shows, sports programs took the trophy as the most-discussed programs on both cable and broadcast.

In particular, NBA games were the hot topic on social media this week. Sports programs made up 42% of all social activity from cable, with 32% of online chatter focused on basketball. The other 10% stemmed from the NHL: the Canadiens/Bruins match-up garnered 1.3 million comments. The Heat/Timberwolves game on NBA TV racked up more than twice that total, with 3.1 million social mentions. Another Heat game, against the Knicks on ABC, was the most popular broadcast program.

The data is courtesy of Trendrr, which measures social media activity related to specific television shows (e.g. mentions, likes, check-ins) across Twitter, Facebook, GetGlue and Viggle. To see daily rankings, check out Trendrr.TV.
