Location-based social networking site Socialight is opening its API to developers, giving them an opportunity to leverage Socialight's mobile networking tools. This is all part of Socialight's plan to create a new kind of media channel, that acts as a conduit for recommendations concerning media and locations, of course.

It's becoming more and more commonplace for startups to open up their APIs, in effort to get developers excited about their product and market it for them. Now that open platforms have become so accepted, it's perfectly OK for a startup to rely on an active developer community to add some peripheral value to their core services.

And as far as mobile goes, there aren't that many platforms available for development yet, so this is another arena in which Socialight is hoping to be an attractive API offering and become a leader in this particular space.

As we've seen with Frengo the space for mobile development is growing, and just as we saw with the increase in developer activity for platforms on the web, mobile app platforms will be garnering a lot of activity in the future as well. Below is a screen shot of an application that Dash Nav has created with Socialight's API.
