A few weeks ago, we wrote about the new SocialToo Status addition to the SocialToo Facebook app that allows users to tweet straight from their Facebook Status Update page. Today, the company has announced that it is enhancing that feature by converting @Facebook mentions into @Twitter mentions.
This is how it works: when you use the SocialToo Facebook app and check the "post to Twitter" box, SocialToo will cross-check the Facebook accounts in its database with users that have also registered Twitter accounts. The resulting tweet will have the proper Twitter username replacing the Facebook mentions name.
For this to work, the individuals you tag on Facebook will need to have a SocialToo account (which you can get by using either Twitter or Facebook Connect) and have their Twitter account linked to their SocialToo account. I had a problem using the app from my Mac, but the feature seems like a great idea and could certainly be a useful reason for users to give SocialToo a try.
I suspect we will see more attempts to overlap Twitter and Facebook features now that a key part of the syntax for updates is so similar.
