Spotify declares 'Lean On' the global song of the summer

"Lean On" is officially summer 2015's global earworm.

Danish singer MØ's vocals, paired with irresistible beats from Major Lazer and DJ Snake, was inescapable this season -- so much so that it became the most-played song on Spotify between June 1 and Aug. 31 around the world, triumphing over some stiff competition.

Rounding out the top five are OMI's "Cheerleader," Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth's "See You Again," The Weeknd's "Can't Feel My Face" and Jason Derulo's "Want To Want Me."

But while MØ took the top spot on the global list, she didn't secure the top of Spotify's U.S. chart. The Weeknd claimed both that throne and the runner-up position, with a one-two punch of "Can't Feel My Face" and "The Hills." "Lean On" finished third in the U.S.
