Sony's Ultra delivers 4K content to your TV, but only if it's a Bravia

LAS VEGAS — 4K TVs may be cheaper than before, but they still lack native 4K content for consumers to watch on them.

Sony's remedying that, kinda. At CES, the company announced Ultra, a new 4K streaming service from Sony Pictures that will let users buy 4K movies and TV shows and stream them to their TVs.

Sony says it will have roughly 40 to 50 movies at launching, including Men in Black 3, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and Pineapple Express, to name a few. Sound good?

There's just one big catch: Ultra will only work on Sony Bravia 4K TVs running Google's Android TV operating system. That means your Samsung or LG 4K TV won't be able to stream Ultra.

That might just be a limitation when the service launches. It's entirely possible Sony will bring the service to other Android TVs in the future.

A Sony spokesperson told Mashable the app will launch sometime this year in the U.S. Unfortunately for us, Sony didn't have any 4K TVs at its CES booth running Ultra for us to check out.
