LAS VEGAS-- Sony's latest take on its classic music player, the ZX2, supports high resolution audio playback and is Wi-Fi-, Bluetooth- and NFC-enabled.

At first glance, the Walkman ZX2 looks more like an oddly shaped smartphone than a music player. The Android-powered device (it runs Android 4.2, Jelly Bean) features a touchscreen, and supports Android apps via the Play Store.

But its real power-- and the reason for its $1,200 price tag -- lies in its S-Master HX processor, which enables the high-resolution audio, though you'll need headphones or a speaker that supports high-res audio to enjoy it.

This isn't the first time Sony has dabbled in high-resolution audio. Its Xperia Z3 smartphone also supports high-res music.

The ZX2's specs have improved since the company's last Walkman, last year's waterproof NZW, which only had an 8-hour battery life. The ZX2 boasts a far more impressive battery life, with up to 60 hours of music playback. It has a 128GB memory, and supports extra storage via a microSD slot. It's NFC-enabled to make it easier to connect to headphones, speakers and other devices.

The music player will sell for $1,199.99. Sony hasn't yet revealed when or where it will be available
