With Wednesday's protest of SOPA and PIPA in full swing on the web and in person, the play button on "The Day The LOLcats Died" video from LaughPong is getting heavy attention.

The clip features an anti-SOPA song set to Don McLean's "American Pie" about The Day the Music Died. In LaughPong's song, a man rattles off thought-provoking lyrics such as, "Why, why are laws a thing you can buy? They got paid off, should be laid off, re-election denied. Our web means more than lawyers, lobbies and lies. So speak up before the Internet dies."

LaughPong is a YouTube channel managed by Cheezburger Network's Know Your Meme Internet scientist Forest Gibson. The mastermind behind the song, Zachary Cohn, and LaughPong created the tune and video in roughly 100 hours. "I had the idea for 'The Day the Lolcats Died' last Thursday night," Cohn told Mashable. "We wrote the script Friday, filmed on Saturday, then released yesterday."

Cheezburger CEO Ben Huh makes a cameo in video. Cheezburger is just one of the many websites publicly voicing opposition to the Stop Online Piracy Act and Protect IP Act. Last week, Huh said his more than 50 websites would participate in Jan. 18's protests against both acts. When visiting those websites today, readers are greeted with pop-up messages like this (see below).
