It's the Emmys, 1965 edition.

The awards show hit an uncomfortable note when Television Academy CEO Bruce Rosenblum asked Sofia Vergara to stand on a rotating pedestal while he discussed the diversity of television production. The Modern Family actress obliged, awkwardly rotating in front of the Emmys audience, displayed like a sequined handbag on E!'s Clutch Cam.

It seemed like Rosenblum might take the opportunity to make a point about objectification in Hollywood, but the segment ended with a thud. "What truly matters is that we never forget that our success is based on always giving the viewer something compelling to watch," Rosenblum said as Vergara hopped off the elevated platform.

While some Twitter users found humor in the bit, many others expressed disgust at the sexist sketch.

Vergara addressed the incident in the press room after the show, calling the controversy "ridiculous" and thinks critics should "lighten up a little bit."
