The service hit the 5 million users landmark back in June 2011, having risen to that number quite quickly since its launch in 2008.
Perhaps the biggest strength of SoundCloud, however, lies in adoption by musicians, both big and small. Artists such as Radiohead, Ryan Adams and 3 Doors Down have embraced the platform and used it to promote their music.
