It can get a little lonely up on the International Space Station -- and there's a definite dearth of fresh-cooked pizza crust. So NASA astronaut Ron Garan took matters into his own hands.
In this video, released April 1, Garan and his NASA colleague Mike Fossum can be seen calling up a pizza place that promises to deliver within 30 minutes to anywhere in the Houston area code -- which, thanks to their Cisco IP phone, is what the astronauts have.
It's a pretty awkward attempt at a prank call; thankfully, we discover at the end of the video, no call was actually placed, and the video was filmed during the astronauts' down time. (We're pretty sure most taxpayers wouldn't mind if our spacebound explorers did decide to relieve the monotony this way; prank calls might actually be one way to increase public awareness of NASA's mission.)
Garan and Fossum were part of Expedition 28 on the ISS -- as was Japanese astronaut Satoshi Furukawa, who can be seen flashing his Payday bar in the background. That means this video was shot somewhere between June and September 2011, and Garan has waited nearly 2 years to bring it to us.
It's about as long a wait as he would have had for that pizza to arrive.
