Spotify thinks it knows which songs you'll like, even if they were recorded decades before you were born.
The streaming service announced Taste Rewind on Monday, a standalone website that plugs into your Spotify account, offers up tunes from different decades, and customizes playlists based on three artists you choose from a list that may include Bruno Mars, Maroon 5, and Disney composer Alan Menken, among others. Think of it as sonic time travel.
Once you've made your choices, you are shuttled to a "Now Playing" screen, where you can toggle between tracks recorded from different decades. In my case, the site showed me a Now Playing screen that kicked off with an awesome remix of Britney Spears' Womanizer. When I switched to music from the 1990s, Spotify kicked things off with the less popular Backstreet Boys track Darlin'. Meanwhile, the 1980s blasted a mix of Madonna, Janet Jackson and Gloria Estefan. (Don't judge!)
For each decade, Spotify also gives you the option of saving the customized playlist to your Spotify app or sharing it on social media via Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.
Taste Rewind is an entertaining if minor addition to the music streaming service, which has worked over the last few months to beef up features both in and outside of music, to include video, podcasts but also things like Running playlists, which dynamically changes the tracks it plays during workouts based on your pace.
