SpotJots Combines Microblogging with Geolocation

SpotJots is a new site that's ready to reveal its beta. It's a microblogging tool that lets you share your life experiences as they happen. Sounds like Twitter, right? Or even the recently acquired Plazes? Throw in some mapping features and media attachments and you've got something that looks a lot like Twitter plus Google Maps (actually Mapquest, in this case) plus Vox (or any other rich media blogging platform). To this end, SpotJots has nicknamed itself Twooglevox. Cute.

The concept of SpotJots isn't entirely new, and there are those third-party services that let you view your Twitter updates on a map, and more. But many of the underlying concepts that SpotJots has built on are often found in disparate sites and services. Pull everything together in one place and you've got geo-location along with multimedia blogging.

It wouldn't make much sense to tackle this feat without mobile support, but SpotJots' mobile integration is still a work in progress. Right now, SpotJots supports Blackberry and select Nokia phones with support for the iPhone on the way. If you'd like to send in an update using your mobile, you can do so via MMS to the assigned email address that's attached to your SpotJots account. If you'd like to have a location attached to that specific jot, however, you'll have to do it yourself. Type in the location (i.e. city and state) along with your jot and it will be mapped and displayed on your stream. With the GPS capabilities of the iPhone 3G, however, I'm guessing that location-based jots via the iPhone will soon be a simpler task.

There are RSS subscription options for SpotJots, as well as widgets that can be placed on social networking profiles and Web sites. If you'd like a more direct approach to redistributing your jots, however, there are posting options that will send your SpotJots stream to TypePad, Facebook (wall and/or feeds), Blogger and Twitter.
