Spout Social Network Acquiring Users for $1 Each

How much is a user worth? $1, if you're the film-based social network Spout. Spout, originally covered here in 2006, has recently been sponsoring full-length videos on YouTube: film-makers include an appeal for signups at the start of the clip, and get $1 for every new user they refer.

The latest sponsorship is Harold Buttleman, Daredevil Stuntman (embedded below), while "Four Eyed Monsters" also benefited. Seems like a rather expensive way to build a user base, no?
