It's a good time to be outer space.

When J.J. Abrams rebooted Star Trek in 2009, he was praised, largely, for making the franchise cool again. 2013's Into Darkness played right into this image, providing a nonstop action thrill ride through the stars -- and the trailer for 2016's Beyond follows suit. With Abrams fully immersed in that other story about stars, the big chair on the bridge is occupied by Fast & Furious director Justin Lin this time around.

The trailer provides little plot of any kind, other than a hint that alien races fear being colonized by Starfleet. Other than that, it's just 90 seconds of space-tastic special effects and catching up with the old U.S.S. Enterprise crew -- the best of whom in this trailer is Karl Urban's grumpy Dr. Bones McCoy.

The full trailer will precede Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Star Trek: Beyond releases July 22, 2016.
