Coolest dad ever built a 400-pound 'Star Wars' Death Star above his house

Decoration envy is real.

This Halloween, Colby Powell and his children decided to build an enormous Star Wars Death Star above their house to impress trick-or-treaters. But the shamelessly fluorescent star, which was 23 feet tall and weighed 400 pounds, attracted enormous attention -- so the family decided to keep it up. Now it towers over their otherwise Death Star-free suburban neighborhood in Lafayette, California.

Powell, a contractor, parked a 70-foot crane at the bottom of his driveway, then used it to lift the star’s two spheres. He then placed LED lights around the star’s frame, which made the geodesic dome light up at night.

As Powell was building, people began stopping by to offer support. More than two dozen people contributed to the project.

“I had people drive by and say, 'Hey do you need a hand with that?'" Powell told Make.
