This is the Star Wars news you're looking for.

Disney released a double-barreled Star Wars announcement on Thursday, confirming we'll see a new Star Wars movie every year for the next three years.

Star Wars: Episode VIII will be released on May 26, 2017.

It will be written and directed by Rian Johnson, who has directed Looper and Breaking Bad episodes. (His attachment to the film was previously reported.)

It's slotted for less than two years after Episode VII, which is coming out on Dec. 18, 2015.

A new spinoff movie, Rogue One, will star Felicity Jones.

It's "the first film in a unique series of big-screen adventures that explores the characters and events beyond the core Star Wars saga."

Shooting will start this summer in London, and the movie is scheduled for release on Dec. 16, 2016. That means there will be Star Wars films hitting theaters in 2015, 2016 and 2017.

Jones was the only cast member announced; that may be a nod to critics who objected to the lack of female roles in the casting announcement for Episode VII last year. This year Jones earned an Oscar nomination for best actress for her performance as Jane Wilde Hawking in The Theory of Everything.

Rogue One is a title for the commander of the Rebel Squadron, so expect some crazy space dogfights in this one.
