Newbies Watch 'Star Wars' For the First Time: Follow Along

It's Star Wars day, so remember those less fortunate than yourself -- that is, people who have never seen the original Star Wars movie, retroactively titled Episode IV: A New Hope.

Yes, they exist, and in greater numbers than you might think.

To address this problem, Mashable has partnered with Change.org and Lucasfilm to host a special screening Saturday night in San Francisco. Dozens of grown-up newbies will get their first taste of Star Wars. Their friends and family will be capturing their reactions live -- and you can follow along.

As with our first newbie-watching-Star-Wars event last year, starring Mashable features writer Christine Erickson, the Twitter account @StarWarsPlot will be tweeting out key moments in the movie as they happen. Friends, family and well-wishers will be tweeting with the hashtag #starwarsnewbies.

The newbies will themselves, we hope, be too enraptured by the film to tweet, but we'll be recording their reactions afterwards with Vines. Check back in, as we post the best Vines and tweets here, starting at 7 p.m. Pacific time.

Join in, follow along and May the Fourth be with you.

@jessworld notices something I've never seen in the Death Star conference scene: everyone has four pens in their pockets. #starwarsnewbies— Chris Taylor (@FutureBoy) May 5, 2013

And a cute reference to "tapes" RT @starwarsplot: On a battle station, a conference is on. There's bickering about Rebels. #starwarsnewbies— Daniel Terdiman (@GreeterDan) May 5, 2013

Too bad the Force requires you to do mind control out loud. #starwarsnewbies— Charlotte Hill (@hill_charlotte) May 5, 2013

It's all fun and games at the Mos Eisley cantina until someone loses an arm. #starwarsnewbies— Chris Taylor (@FutureBoy) May 5, 2013

The "curse my metal body" bit gets a big laugh from the #starwarsnewbies screening.— Pablo Hidalgo (@infinata) May 5, 2013

"No reward is worth this." This being backtalk from a woman. Thanks for the chauvinism, Han Solo. #starwarsnewbies— Charlotte Hill (@hill_charlotte) May 5, 2013

This moment was only awkward if you've seen the movie already. #starwarsnewbies twitter.com/hill_charlotte…— Charlotte Hill (@hill_charlotte) May 5, 2013

That time when Luke was way sadder over losing a friend he'd had for a day than losing his aunt and uncle. #starwarsnewbies— Charlotte Hill (@hill_charlotte) May 5, 2013

In space, everyone can hear you get cocky. #starwarsnewbies— Chris Taylor (@FutureBoy) May 5, 2013
