It was the moment all nerds had been waiting for -- nerds in the entertainment press anyway. Disney premiered the seventh installment of the Star Wars franchise, The Force Awakens, in Hollywood on Monday night. It was just days prior to the release of the most anticipated film of the year, and 10 years after Lucasfilm released the last film, Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.

Mashable's Deputy Editor Chris Taylor interviewed the film's stars on the red carpet (live on Periscope), then joined our Entertainment Editor Josh Dickey inside for the film's screening, but we can't tell you anything until Wednesday morning.

To tide you over, we've rounded up the best images and tweets from what some are calling Hollywood's biggest premiere ever -- straight from a red carpet that spans three city blocks on Hollywood Boulevard, so big it's showing in three different theaters at once. You can also catch the live stream on starwars.com and add Mashable on Snapchat for more scenes from the red carpet.
