Lightsaber duels may be finally coming to VR

Ever since motion controls became popular in video games with Nintendo’s Wii, people have been hoping for a game that puts you in control of a lightsaber-wielding Sith or Jedi. Nothing has really left its mark as a decent, motion-controlled Jedi simulator, but that could easily change with the virtual reality game Star Wars: Trials on Tatooine.

A trailer for Star Wars: Trials on Tatooine for the HTC Vive VR headset was leaked on YouTube by the team behind the game, Industrial Light & Magic, until it was quickly set to private. Lucky for us, the people who noticed it grabbed some pretty telling screenshots.

Last year, ILM made a video that showed off some of its work on a Star Wars VR experience. The glimpse at Trials on Tatooine suggests something a bit more game-oriented than the mild interaction shown off last year, although its tagline “A cinematic virtual reality experiment” isn’t inherently gaming-related.
