LONDON -- Another sugar scare story did the rounds Wednesday, with a variety of hot drinks from coffee shops found to have disgustingly high levels of sugar lurking inside.
The biggest surprise from the Action on Sugar survey, though, was that a really bizarre sounding concoction was top of the list of worst offenders.
Starbucks' hot mulled fruit - grape with chai, orange and cinnamon - in a belt-busting "venti" or 20 ounce size, contains a whopping 99 grams of sugar per serving. That's 25 teaspoons. And people are drinking the thing.
So glad @StarbucksUK are still doing their hot mulled grape drink. Tastes incredible. pic.twitter.com/Q7p3K3Agq8— Benjamin Butterworth (@benjaminbutter) January 13, 2016
Confusion reigned on Twitter on Wednesday as everyone tried to work out who in the world actually orders that kind of drink.
Who the F orders a Hot mulled fruit drink with grape, chai, orange and cinnamon, anyway?!— TJ (@TJ_2303) February 17, 2016
You mean, people actually go to Starbucks for a Hot Mulled Fruit (grape with chai, orange and cinnamon venti)?! https://t.co/e0dtd3GR1n— Toa Fraser (@ToaFraser) February 17, 2016
Starbucks grape with chai, orange & cinnamon contains 25 sugars, presumably to mask the flavour & kill off the sort of people who order it.— Gonuts McDie (@GonutsMcDie) February 17, 2016
If you go to #Starbucks and ask for a 'venti grape with chai, orange and cinnamon hot mulled fruit', you're a twat.— Davey B (@notquiteaslice) February 17, 2016
If you're ordering a Venti Grape with Chai, Orange and Cinnamon Hot Mulled Fruit you have bigger problems than sugar consumption.— keri (@kerihw) February 17, 2016
Who orders this stuff anyway?!

No. If you're the kind of person to order a "venti mulled fruit chai in a cafe" *you* are the worst offender. pic.twitter.com/dGg8vVJbmw— Castaignede (@Castaignede) February 17, 2016
Make ours an Americano, cheers.
