Starbucks Testing Video Drive-Thru

Drive-thru intercoms are notorious for their bad, scratchy sound that often make it impossible to hear your order repeated back to you. These may soon be a thing of the past at Starbucks.

According to an unofficial Starbucks fan site, the coffee chain is testing a new video ordering system in several Washington state locations.

StarbucksMelody.com traveled to a drive-thru store in Burien to check out the experience and take some photos. The video technology enables the driver to see the employee taking his or her order and vice versa.

Drivers and passengers can look at a friendly face when they place an order, rather than just talking to a machine and hearing an anonymous person’s voice. That may improve customer service and provide a friendlier, more relaxed drive-thru experience.
