After Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia's unexpected death on Saturday, Stephen Colbert took a moment on Monday's episode of The Late Show to reminisce about an interaction between the two from 10 years earlier.

"And whether or not you agree with him or made a lot of jokes about him, like I did, one thing you've gotta admit: He had a great sense of humor," Colbert began, before recalling the conservative justice's reaction to his famous speech at the 2006 White House Correspondents Dinner.

During that speech, Colbert roasted President George W. Bush, the Republican party and even himself. He said that while people in the room largely ignored him afterward, Scalia approached him to compliment the jokes that came at his own expense.

"I will forever be grateful for that moment of human contact that he gave me," he said.
