LONDON -- Actor and writer Stephen Fry confirmed Tuesday on Twitter that he is to marry his partner Elliot Spencer.
The Sun newspaper had reported 57-year-old Fry's intention to marry 27-year-old Spencer at a registry office in Dereham, Norfolk, close to where the actor grew up, prompting Fry to confirm the news to his 8.3 million followers.
Oh. It looks as though a certain cat is out of a certain bag. I’m very very happy of course but had hoped for a private wedding. Fat chance!— Stephen Fry (@stephenfry) January 6, 2015

Later, Fry wrote on Twitter: "Your adorable tweets are bringing me close to sobbing. Off for a walk and a blast of Jorge Bolet (thanks to @JRhodesPianist’s ace present)."
News of the engagement trended on Twitter in the UK Tuesday morning.
His personal assistant told the BBC that no date had yet been set for the wedding due to a busy work schedule.
Fry, who presents the comedy panel game show QI on BBC Two, has recently appeared in The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies and 24: Live Another Day. He has also presented a number of documentaries, including travel programme Stephen Fry in America and Stephen Fry: Out There in which he looked at attitudes around the globe to homosexuality.
In the past he has spoken and written openly about his mental health and his battles with cyclothymia, a form of bipolar disorder. In a blog post in 2013, he wrote about an attempt to take his own life as well as his desire to not be lonely.
